Sing with Choir 2000

Our members come from many communities around Cambridge, especially the local villages of Histon and Impington.

Since the current number of members is at the limit of the safe (and comfortable) capacity of our rehearsal and performance venue, Choir 2000 is not able to admit new members for the remainder of this season (December - June)- we are operating a waiting list. We realise that this may be a disappointment to you if you are wanting to sing with us, but feel that this is the only fair way to deal with the situation. If you would like to sing with us, please contact us via e-mail (info2000@choir 2000.org) before turning up at a rehearsal.

If you are not currently a member but have enquired about membership, your name is on a waiting list, pending decision by the committe on a policy for the choir on this.

There are no auditions to join the Choir, though being able to read music, even if not very well, is obviously an advantage!

Here is the brochure for the current (2010-11) season . [opens in separate window].

Becoming a member

There is a basic enrolment fee of £20.00 p.a. at the beginning of the season. Couples who are both members of the choir will only pay a single enrolment fee of £20. New members who join later in the season pay a reduced enrolment fee.

There is also a participation fee of £15.00 (£20.00 summer term only) for each full term of rehearsals and two performances.

For those who pay for the full year in advance there is a £5.00 reduction. In cases of hardship the committee may agree to waive part or all of the participation fees.

Gift Aid

Due to recent changes in HMRC rules about Gift Aid, the choir commitee has been considering how this applies to Choir 2000. The current decision, which was agreed at the 2011 AGM, was that :

  1. 20% of Peter Britton's rehearsal time will be classed as tuition
  2. 100% of the time spent in (dedicated) vocal training sessions will be classed as tuition

Further information will be given to all members before the next Gift Aid return. "Vocal training sessions" take place as part of a rehearsal with a guest musician such as Louise Crooks or Lynette Alcantara.

If you wish to buy your own copy of the music for a particular concert, this can be arranged - please ask our librarian for details.
